Bas van Koolwijk uses both sound and image, be it analogue or in numerical code, as interchangeable data. He produces visual and acoustic compositions in which both manifestations powerfully interact. His artworks can often be seen as an attack on the illusion of the medium itself.
Van Koolwijk develops his own hardware and software applications.
Black Square Projector installation
A handmade projector that is fully programmed for one task only.
At regular intervals, the device projects a bright white square, the negative afterimage of which is then revealed for a brief moment in time, and as such only in the mind.
Creating a black square with the absence of light, the installation is ON when OFF.
Presented at the Black² exhibition at Project Ground Moscow, Jul-Aug 2015.

FDBCK AV - Red Flag screening
Filmmaker and artist Joost Rekveld presents a small exhibition connected to themes in his own work. The result is a selection of five works of four contemporary, Dutch filmmakers. With their work they use the medium itself: film. They create images by building machines or making software. The material they use is manipulative and exists of elements you look through, such as video signals, pixels and liquid crystals.
With work of: Jet Smits, Bart Vegter, Bas van Koolwijk, Telcosystems and Joost Rekveld.
